🌾 September - monthly update
September has been a month of strong local representation — from supporting vital health motions and reviewing council services, to meeting with national representatives and championing rural initiatives. Here’s a look at what I’ve been doing on your behalf:
💙 Supporting Children & Families
Attended the Corporate Parenting Board, continuing our shared commitment to ensure every child in care and every care-experienced young person in East Riding receives the support, stability, and opportunities they deserve.
💓 Strengthening Rural Health & Safety
Met with Graham Stuart MP at Bilton Village Hall to see the new defibrillator now installed free of charge — thanks to the joint efforts of Bilton Parish Council, Graham’s office, and myself. A real community success that could one day save a life.
🚔 Safer & Stronger Communities
Attended the Safer & Stronger Communities Overview & Scrutiny Committee, with important updates from the Crown Prosecution Service, Prison Service, and Probation Service. It was an invaluable opportunity to question how agencies work together to keep our villages and towns safe.
🏗 Planning & Oversight
Joined the Planning Committee, ensuring that applications across our area are assessed fairly, transparently, and with residents’ voices in mind.
Chaired the Council Review Panel, overseeing internal governance and maintaining strong accountability within East Riding Council.
🏛 Full Council
Took part in Full Council, where I was proud to second the Endometriosis Workplace Charter motion, helping to raise awareness of women’s health in the workplace.
Also contributed to the debate on migrant hotel use, speaking up for the concerns voiced to me by residents, concerned about local impact and safety.
🌬 Championing Local Community Funds
Joined the Withernwick Community Wind Farm Fund, now officially appointed to represent local interests and ensure funding supports meaningful community projects.
🧠 Scrutinising Health & Care Services
Attended the Health, Care & Wellbeing Overview & Scrutiny Committee, focusing on hospital discharges and pathology services. I raised concerns about how delays and communication gaps affect patient care — especially in rural areas.
