🌼 March 2025 — Monthly Update
Spring may be just around the corner, but the work never stops — and March has been another packed month of meetings, community visits, campaign events and council scrutiny. From broadband to biodiversity, nursery issues to NHS care, here’s what I’ve been up to this month on your behalf:
🌿 Environment, Flooding & Nature Recovery
Took part in a Local Nature Recovery Plan meeting, ensuring our local priorities — from protecting wildlife to restoring habitats — are represented in East Riding’s emerging strategy.
Attended a Living with Water Update and a public drop-in at the Living with Water Pop-In Centre, continuing to push for practical flood solutions for Bilton, Hedon and the surrounding villages.
Joined a resident and council officer on-site in Bilton to discuss recurring garden flooding. I’ll keep working until we get a resolution.
🏥 Health, Support & Community Wellbeing
Attended the Health, Care & Wellbeing Overview & Scrutiny Committee, pushing again for better rural health access — including dentistry and preventative care.
Joined the Children & Young People OSC, continuing to track how children’s services are supporting vulnerable families and tackling educational inequality.
Took part in a Household Support Fund meeting to review schemes including heated vests and winter support — practical help that’s making a real difference.
Endometriosis Awareness meeting to listen to HEYEndo vision to get workplaces to sign up to their charter - which is about supporting efforts to raise visibility for women’s health issues.
📊 Council Tax & Financial Oversight
Arranged a meeting with council officers to discuss Council Tax recovery, raising concerns about how the current process impacts vulnerable residents. I’ll be pushing for clearer communication, fairer support where needed, and for the default payment period to be 12 months rather than 10.
🖥️ Connectivity & Infrastructure
Took part in a key update on Project Gigabit — the government’s flagship programme to bring fast, reliable broadband to hard-to-reach rural areas like ours. I'll continue pressing to ensure Mid Holderness is not left behind.
🔥 Fire & Rescue Engagement
Joined colleagues for a Members’ Day and the Humberside Fire & Rescue Authority meeting, continuing our focus on emergency response, prevention, and ensuring fair coverage across Holderness villages.
🗳️ Campaigning & Conservative Group Work
Took part in a Conservative Group Meeting, helping shape our local policy priorities around health, rural infrastructure, and planning.
Joined MP Graham Stuart for a Street Surgery in Skirlaugh, where we chatted to residents about everything from roads to health appointments.
Helped out on the ground in Beverley, leafleting for the upcoming Mayoral Campaign — making the case for Conservative leadership that delivers for East Riding.
📜 Planning, Training & Parish Work
Took part in Planning Appeal Decision Training and a Planning Training session, sharpening the skills needed to challenge unsuitable developments and stand up for our countryside.
Attended Long Riston Parish Council, always pleased to keep up with village priorities and support local actions.
