Here you'll find the issues I’ve brought to Full Council as motions, calling for change at both local and national levels. I've also suggested topics for the Council's scrutiny committees to examine in depth so we can better understand what is, and isn’t, happening in our communities.
Solar Farms
Goal: To increase transparency around energy developments and protect East Riding’s best farmland from overdevelopment.
Action:
Writing to the Secretary of State to demand tougher national rules on solar farm siting, soil testing, and community compensation.
Publishing a public map showing all solar, wind, battery, and hydrogen proposals across the East Riding.
Prioritising brownfield and low-grade land for solar – not our best farmland.
Helping parish councils secure fair community benefit deals.
Outcome: The Council voted unanimously in favour of the motion.

Domestic Abuse
Goal: Aiming to ensure transparency, so figures are not hidden and communities can clearly see the extent of the issue in their areas
Action: Motion to East Riding Council asking councillors to agree to write to Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner and the Government about making Domestic Abuse as a neighbourhood Crome and to feature monthly figures in community newsletters
Outcome: The Council voted overwhelmingly in FAVOUR of the motion.

Young Carers
Goal: Identify the number of young carers, their locations, and the support they need.
Action: Add this issue to the Children & Young People Overview & Scrutiny Committee (C&YPOSC) work programme.
Outcome: The Council establish a dedicated team to support and assist young carers.
Support: East Riding Young Carers Support
