π May 2025 β Monthly Update
May has been a month of resilience, outreach, and frontline scrutiny β from election results to street surgeries and championing better care. Hereβs a look at what Iβve been doing on your behalf:
π³ Elections & Representation
The month began with a tough result for our party in the first-ever Hull & East Riding Mayoral Election. On May 2nd, I attended the vote count at Hull Guildhall β where Reform UK's Luke Campbell was elected. While not the result weβd hoped for, I remain committed to standing up for Mid Holderness and rural East Riding.
Attended the East Riding Conservative Group AGM β reflecting on the campaign and preparing for the year ahead.
π³ Taking Local Services to the Heart of the Community
Held my first Mobile Library Street Surgery in Burstwick β bringing council services directly to residents. These sessions are a vital way to listen, engage, and resolve local concerns.
Secured support from Graham Stuart MPβs office to help Bilton Parish Council secure a new defibrillator β a real boost for local safety.
π₯ Standing Up for Health & Families
Contacted Hull Maternity Hospital to request a visit and discuss the impact of the Labour Governmentβs cut to maternity safety funding from Β£95m to Β£2m. Safe, high-quality maternity care must remain a priority.
π Planning, Flooding & Infrastructure
Attended a site visit with the Internal Drainage Board and Bilton Parish Council to explore flooding issues affecting Bilton cemetery and allotments β looking into long-term solutions.
π§ Scrutinising Health & Social Care
Joined the Health, Care & Wellbeing Overview & Scrutiny Committee, raising concerns over the outsourcing of the Shared Lives Scheme, which supports adults with additional needs in family-style homes. Services like this must remain safe, supportive, and accountable.

π§ Supporting Children & Young People
Took part in the Children & Young People Overview & Scrutiny Committee β focusing on the SEND & Inclusion Improvement Plan and the Educational Psychology Service. Ensuring children with additional needs get timely, effective support is a key priority.
π Casework That Cares
Spoke with a local resident to discuss how I can help with the specific needs of their grandchild β practical help that really matters.
π Parish Councils & Local Issues
Continued my regular attendance at parish councils, including:
Withernwick Parish Council
Long Riston Parish Council
Catwick Parish Council
Hatfield Parish Council
These meetings are a vital way to stay close to the issues affecting our villages.
π₯ Emergency Services Oversight
Attended an Emergency Response Directorate update with the Fire Authority β ensuring our fire and rescue services remain ready and properly resourced.
π Annual Council & Civic Life
Took part in the Full Council AGM, where Cllr Liam Dealtry was elected as the new Chairman of East Riding Council. I look forward to working with him in the year ahead.
