🌿 February 2025 — Monthly Update
From fire safety to nursery closures, solar farm consultations to budget debates — February has been a month full of serious discussions, community visits, and strong representation across Holderness. Here's a snapshot of the work I’ve been doing on your behalf:
🏥 Health, Children & Community Wellbeing
Attended the Health, Care & Wellbeing Overview & Scrutiny Committee, where I continue to raise the need for better rural health access and push for dental and GP provision to match our growing population.
Took part in the Children & Young People OSC, helping hold services to account on everything from school places to emotional wellbeing.
Met with partners at a dedicated Community Risk Management Plan Meeting to assess how emergency services can better respond to local needs.
🔥 Fire & Rescue: Standing Up for Rural Safety
Joined colleagues at a Fire & Rescue Authority Members’ Day and a full Emergency Response Strategy meeting, focusing on how to improve coverage, response times, and resources for rural areas.
Participated in the latest Humberside Fire & Rescue Authority meeting, continuing to advocate for prevention work and fair investment across Holderness.
Took part in a Cllr Safety Workshop, reinforcing the importance of ensuring councillors feel safe and supported in public-facing roles.
💷 Budget, Strategy & Council Business
Attended the Pre-Budget Meeting and Full Council, where I’ve been scrutinising plans to ensure that essential services are protected while pushing for smarter spending.
Took part in the Conservative Group Meeting, shaping our local priorities and backing improvements to infrastructure, youth support and council transparency.
🏛 Local Representation & Parish Work
Attended the Pre-Budget Meeting and Full Council, where I scrutinised spending plans to protect essential services — and presented a motion on improving visibility of domestic abuse figures, which was passed unanimously. A small but important step in making sure no victim goes unseen.
Took part in a CLG (Community Liaison Group) meeting in Aldbrough, discussing how large energy projects must deliver for local people, not just developers.
☀️ Planning & Site Visits
Visited the Drove Solar Farm Consultation, where I spoke with residents about landscape impact, biodiversity concerns, and the need for tangible community benefit when large schemes are proposed in our countryside.
Carried out a site visit to Pymhurst Close, Wawne, alongside fellow ward councillor Cllr John Holtby, after concerns raised by the parish council.
🚸 Education & Nursery Closures
Attended a meeting to discuss the closure of Gemini Nursery, raising concerns about the loss of early years provision and the impact on working families. I’ll continue to push for accessible, affordable childcare in our rural villages.
🚦 Roads & Transport
Took part in a Traffic Management meeting, highlighting long-standing concerns about road safety, speeding, and infrastructure shortfalls in Holderness villages.
